The mechanical properties of the coating are the key factors affecting the service life of the coated products. The evaluation methods of mechanical properties (adhesion, crack resistance, wear resistance, hardness and strength) of hot-dip galvanized Zn-Al-Mg coatings were reviewed. The research progress of the influence of Al, Mg, Si and other alloy composition contents in the coating, hot-dip galvanizing temperature and time on the mechanical properties was summarized. In order to obtain Zn-Al-Mg coating with good corrosion resistance and mechanical properties, it pointed out that the corresponding relationship between coating microstructure and various mechanical property indexes should be deeply studied. And then the hot-dip galvanizing temperature and time window of different steel grades should be actively explored. In addition, the material genetic engineering and machine learning technology should be used in research on properties of Zn-Al-Mg coating to realize the composition design and microstructure and properties prediction quickly and accurately, so as to guide the actual production.
